Resumen:
Ephemeroptera are probably the most primitive pterigote insects. They are mainly characterized by the short-living adult stage with several modifications for their efimeral life. Nymphs are aquatic and represent important components of the benthic fauna. The Argentinean fauna is composed of two main components, one distributed in Patagonia and Southern Andes, and the other in the subtropical lowlands. The last one is the least known, and needs urgent revision, especially in certain families.
