Resumen:
Equine arteritis virus causes subclinical infections characterized by respiratory disease, abortion or pneumonia. The interaction of proteins GP5 and M, codified on ORF 5 and 6, respectively, is critical for infectivity. Only one serotype of EAV is described although variations between isolates from different geographic regions exist. In Argentina 5 EAV strains were isolated in 2001 (LP01 strain) in 2002 (LP02/R, LP02/C and LP02/P) and in 2007 (LT-LP-ARG strain). In this work we compare and characterize new sequences of EAV obtained from 3 archive semen samples together with the Argentinean strains. LP02/R, LP02/C, LP02/P, LT-LP-ARG, RO-LP-ARG and RZ-LP-ARG showed 99% homology by sequences identity, meanwhile RO-LP-ARG and LT-LP-ARG have 100% identity. Phylogenetic tree analysis identified one cluster including LP02/R, LP02/P, LP02/C, LT-LP-ARG, RO-LPARG,  RZ-LP-ARG and KB-LP-ARG. The results obtained allowed us to determine molecular characteristics between the Argentinean strains. Further studies will be needed in order to determine if the variations found are responsible for antigenicity, tropism and virulence.
