Resumen:
AbstractThis paper includes the description and illustration of 14 species of bivalves from the Puerto Madryn Formation (Valdes Peninsula, Chubut Province, Argentina). The assemblage analyzed is of Middle Miocene age and shows strong generic affinities with the warm water associations of bivalves in the Caribbean Sea during that epoch. Moreover, the typical generic association of giant pectinids that characterizes the Middle Miocene Caribbean region is also represented in Argentina. The evolutionary trend of the southern Hemisphere´s representatives of the genus Chlamys RoDING, 1798 is discussed. Chlamys actinodes (SowERBY) is considered as to be probably one of the more primitive members of this species group. Seven new species are described and illustrated: Area particularis, Glycymeris (Glycymeris) longioriformis, Glycymeris (Glycymerita} magna, Amusium paris, Argopecten gratus, Argopecten insuetus and Chesapecten crassus.
