Reference systems for the determination of 10B trough autoradiography images: set up and application to a melanoma experimental model.

The concentration of 10B in tissue samples may be inferred by measuring the track density in the autoradiography image produced on the nuclear track detector. A standard element with a known amount of 10B has to be used as a reference for a quantitative evaluation of boron. Small volume boxes assembled with Lexan foils and filled with 10B boric acid solutions and homogeneous films prepared with 2% agarose in boric acid solutions were evaluated as reference systems. Calibration curves obtained for the standard samples were applied to evaluate the concentration of 10B in melanoma tumour of female NIH nude mice after a biodistribution study.
