Resumen:
Uranium(VI) is a contaminant that could be generated in acid mine drainage and is highly mobile in ecosystems. Uranium(VI) reduction generates insoluble uranium(IV) compounds that could be separated from effluents. Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans metabolism generates high power reducing compounds that, in addition to its resistance to high metal concentrations, could be used to reduce uranium(VI). In this work Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans showed resistance to uranium(VI) concentrations as high as 300 mg l-1,  but no precipitation of uranium(IV) was found at the conditions studied.
