Resumen:
This chapter presents the first interpretive synthesis of the region’s indigenous history over the entire colonial period. It explores the cultural practices, adaptations, and strategies that allowed the natives to resist the conquest and to exert their own influence on a space that was firstan outlier of the Inca Empire, then later an internal borderland of war and colonization emanating from the Spanish government in Tucumán.
