This article is a critical dialogue with Giovanni Sartoris views as posited in ¿Qué es la democracia? Its purpose is twofold. On the one hand, it aims to identify along Sartoris lines the essence and legitimacy foundation of modern liberal democracy, and on the other, to discuss and possibly even question the main principles proposed by the reputable political scientist in relation to the democratic legitimacy of constitutionalism.
