Resumen:
The effect of nickel incorporation on the chemical response of Ramalina celastri and Usnea amblyoclada exposed to urban air pollutants was assessed. Lichen thalli were treated with Ni solutions, transplanted to two areas with different levels of air pollution and chemical analysis was performed. A pollution Index was also calculated for both species. The exposure to Ni altered the physiological response to atmospheric pollutants in both species, making them more sensitive to the damage. Furthermore, it was observed that R. celastri accumulated more sulphur than U. amblyoclada and was more sensitive to urban pollutants.
