Resumen:
The ceramic remains of archaeological origin show multiple ethnobotanical information resulting from two main sources: the manufacturing process and their use. A comparative analysis of different samples was developed with the purpose of establishing the different possibilities of information obtained from the ceramic material. The first group comes from some hunters and collectors’ occupations (sites: Cueva Tixi, Cueva El Abra, Amalia Sitio 3 and La Cautiva Sitio 2) and dates from the last 1,000 years A.P, whereas the second group dates from the second half of the eighteenth (XVIII) century (Localidad Amalia Sitio 2). These were superficially sampled and compared to the material from the ceramic matrix, in order to establish a methodology that allows to differentiate the origins of the several remains in each sample. One part of the samples was desintegrated and the material was observed without any processing, for the other part, some maize was grinded and processed, following the processing standards for obtaining silicophytoliths in sedimentary material. The results were heterogenous, with the exception of fragments of similar manufacturing characteristics. It was possible to consider three general methodological rules: the processing of the sedimentary matrix, the processing of the ceramic samples and the processing of the samples surface. These were processed following the methodological rules for the obtention of silicophytoliths in sedimentary material. The samples coming from the material floating in the initial washing were set aside and analyzed to verify the presence of organic remains and also the material without processing was observed to check the easy elimination components such as sodium chloride.
