The purpose of this chapter is to describe the process of regionalization in the social sciences in Latin America, noting the characteristics of this unification and tracing its time line. We start by examining a series of selected indicators: professional organizations, education and research institutions, journals, intellectual production and scientific conferences. Then we expand our analysis to the field of publishing, which provides different insights into the relationship between the social sciences, politics and the broader market of symbolic goods.
