Resumen:
In the present chapter, recent results about the development and characterization of composite materials based on Polypropylene (PP) reinforced with fly ash are reviewed. Several investigations on different PP/ash composites including those reinforced with raw ash and others with ash treated with different silane based modifiers are presented. The incorporation of maleic anhydride functionalized iPP (MAPP) as coupling agent or an olefin block copolymer (OBC) as compatibilizer in the composites formulation was also analyzed in these research works. The rheological, mechanical (deformation and fracture) and thermal behaviors were studied for different composites. The effect of filler content on these behaviors was also analyzed. The failure mechanisms responsible for the fracture response of the different composites are also discussed. A comprehensive analysis of the most relevant published results is presented. Finally, future trends on the development of composites based on PP and fly ash are discussed.
