It is known only from the type collection from the northwestern of Argentina (Prov. Tucumán); a key to distinguish this species from its closer relatives is provided. New synonyms for Cicendia  quadrangularis, Curtia  tenuifolia, Gentiana  prostrata, Zygostigma  australe and for 4 species of Gentianella are proposed. The ocurrence of Chelonanthus viridiflorus and Schultesia guianensis in Argentina and Paraguay is confirmed. These two last species are described and illustrated in detail.
