Resumen:
Mechanical milling is a process in which energy is transferred from the highly energetic milling tools to the powder particles. In this way, the kinetics of the induced reactions would be directly associated to this energy. In this paper, we propose a phenomenological model for the kinetics of mechanically induced gas-solid reactions based on the analogy between the thermal energy in thermally activated processes and the mechanical energy in this case. The model is supported by the isokinetic character shown by the absorption curves when the specific energy dose is considered. A fundamental kinetic equation and an universal function for the nitriding and hydriding degree of Hf and Zr metals may be derived. It was found that the rate constant depends linearly on the milling intensity.
