Resumen:
Free fatty acids (FFAs) contribute in physiological functions through their receptor (FFAR), which depend on FFAs? carbon chain length. The FFAR1 and FFAR4 are activated by long-chain polyunsaturated FFAs. FFAR2 and FFAR3 have preferences forshort chains FFAs. FFARs are critical for metabolic functions and contribute to energy homeostasis. FFARs havebeen described in ewes?ovaries. However, there is no evidences of a maternal programming o nutritional effects on those receptors in ovaries from lambs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) supplementation to ewes during late gestation on finishing lamb ovary gene expression of FFARs. Lambs born from ewes supplemented with Ca salts of the PUFA (EPA and DHA), or palm FA distillate (PFAD) high in palmitic and oleic acid at 0.39% DM during the last 50 days of gestation were used. Lambs were weaned at 60 days of age and adapted to a high concentrate diet for 1.5 month. After adaptation, 74 Hampshire x Dorset cross lambs (28 pens) were blocked by initial BW when the finishing period started and used in a 2x2 factorial arrangement of treatments using the factors of dam diet and lamb diets containing PUFA or PFAD at 1.5% DM. After 42 days of supplementation 14 females were slaughtered and ovary samples were obtained for FFARs gene expression analysis. There was a dam diet effect on the abundance of mRNA of FFAR4 (P=0.05); lambs born from PUFA dams showed higher levels than PFAD.Also, lamb feed with PUFA tend to have higher concentration of FFAR4 (P = 0.07). The abundance of mRNA of FFAR2 had no significant dam or lamb diet effect (P > 0.1). The mRNA of FFAR1 and FFAR3 was no found in the samples. As a conclusion we can mention that dam diet and lamb diet modified FFAR4 mRNA expression.
