Intermediate valence behaviour in the new Kondo lattice compound Yb3Ni5Al19

Resumen:
The physical properties of single crystals of the Kondo lattice materialYb3 Ni5 Al19 have been investigated by means of magnetic susceptibility, specificheat, and electrical resistivity measurements. Single-crystal x-ray diffractionmeasurements indicate that Yb3 Ni5 Al19 adopts the Gd3 Ni5 Al19 orthorhombiccrystal structure. This compound exhibits intermediate valence behaviour witha characteristic energy scale TK ∼ 500 K. Calculations of χ(T ) based onthe Anderson impurity model within the non-crossing approximation includingcrystalline electric field effects are also presented.
