We focus on vertical WSEs consisting of a three main services: Front-End Service (FS), Caching Service (CS) and Index Service (IS). Each service is deployed on a different cluster of nodes.  In such systems a query submitted by a user goes through different stages. It is at the very beginning received by the FS that first redirects it to the CS. This CS checks whether the same request has already been performed and the result (document IDs) cached by the server. The CS can answer to the FS with a cache hit and send the query result or a cache failure. In the later situation the FS reroutes the query to the IS that will compute the actual top-k result of the query and send it back to the FS
