Resumen:
Even though androgens are fundamental in lung function otherwise the castration is the standard therapeutic treatment for advancedprostate cancer. Additionally, epithelial cells produce a big amountof transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) and inflammatory cellsduring lung injury. TGFβ1 plays a crucial role in differentiation, proliferation, and apoptosis process, including apoptosis of airway epithelial cells.Objetive: to explore epithelium integrity in the course of androgendeprivation.Male Wistar rats (200 ± 20 g) were separated in 3 groups: controls(Co), castrated (Ca), and castrated supplemented with testosterone (Ca+T) for fve days. After 60 days rats were killed and lungswere obtained. RNA was extracted by the method of TRIzol. mRNAlevels of Bax, Bcl-2, cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), vascular cell adhesion protein-1 (VCAM-1), TGFβ, androgen receptor (AR) andnuclear factor-erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) were quantifed byRT-PCR, using s28 as control. TBAR?S and testosterone level weremeasured. Lungs were examined for evidence of injury. ANOVA wasused for statistical analysis.Testosterone decrease (p
