Resumen:
Since the origin of chromatography, there has been a continuous development of stationary phases with a wide range of functionalities which have lead to the separation of a wide range of compound and extended the range of applications. Analysis of basic compounds by chromatography is of great interest, as over 70% of pharmaceuticals are included on this group. Separating basic compounds using mobile phases of pH over 10 is especially attractive, due many of them exist as free bases, minimizing problems of interactions with ionized silanol groups on the silica support. Some column packings have been designed to operate at higher pH values however, these materials have not reached a high level of acceptance because of problems with reproducibility and efficiency mostly.
