Resumen:
This article presents several synthesis and design optimization problems in process system engineering involving hierarchical decisions which are modeled using nested disjunctions. Since it does not exists an algorithm to solve a problem with that type of disjunction, it is needed the transformation of nested disjunctions into a formulation where the problems can be solved. Vecchietti and Grossmann(200) have presented a transformation for embedded disjunctions. Whit this approach in mind, the idea behind this article is to give to the reader better understanding of the steps involved in the transformation by showing its use in the examples presented. Some results obtained in the problem solutions are also shown.
