Resumen:
This article is an introduction to our English translation of Karl Kautsky´s "Theories of Crises", a critical review of the book "Studies on the Theory and History of Commercial Crises in England" by Mikhail Tugan-Baranowsky. We briefly address the development of underconsumptionist theories of crises in classical political economy and in Russian and German Marxian intellectual circles, contextualise Kautsky´s and Tugan-Baranovsky´s stances in these circle´s debates, and summarise the contents of their respective works on crises.
