Resumen:
Flubendazole (FLBZ) showed efficacy against protoesc¨®lices and cysts of Echinococcus granulosus. Likewise, the efficacy of ivermectin (IVM) was reported. The aim of this work was to point out the in vitro effect of the combination of FLBZ plus IVM against E. granulosus cysts. Ten BalbC mice were infected by intraperitoneal route. Eight months post-infection animals were euthanised and cysts were obtained. Cysts were incubated with FLBZ and IVM at the following final concentrations: 10 mg/ml FLBZ, 1 mg/ml FLBZ, 1 mg/ml IVM, 10 mg/ml FLBZ + 1 mg/ml IVM, 1 mg/ml FLBZ + 1 mg/ml IVM. Cysts incubated with culture medium containing DMSO were used as control group. Samples of cysts were taken for electron microscopy. The greater effect was produced by the combination 10 mg/ml FLBZ + 1 mg/ml IVM. Ultrastructural studies revealed that the germinal layer of treated cysts lost the feature multicellular structure. The outcomes obtained demonstrated the favourable effect of the combination of FLBZ and IVM against E. granulosus cysts. Further thorough studies of FLBZ + IVM chemotherapeutic effect in vitro at a lower concentration than 1 ¦Ìg/ml should be undertaken.
