Resumen:
The entomonematodes laboratory belonging to the Center of Parasitological Studies and Vectors (CEPAVE), has built a solid foundation in the study of parasitic nematodes and pathogens of insects of agricultural and health. Among the contributions may be mentioned the description of numerous species, determination of biological cycles, ecology of pathogenic species, and dynamics in natural conditions. Studies aimed at optimizing production in the laboratory have been developed for nematodes belonging to the Mermithidae family and currently Heterorhabditidae. Biology, pathogenesis, and susceptibility of a native isolate of the nematode Heterorhabditis bacteriophora (strain VELI) showed high mortality of larvae of Lepidoptera, with values above 80% in Galleria mellonella, Spodoptera frugiperda, and Hylesia nigricans. Its effectiveness is being assessed at field against Lobiopa insularis (Laporte) (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae), generalist herbivore that was recently registered as emerging pest in strawberry crop and Hylesia nigricans (Lepidoptera), known as black butterfly or bug burner. Moreover, between the lines of our laboratory it is the study of nematomorphos parasites if insets, Nematoda sister group, with they share many morphological and life cycle (especially with mermítidos). In this respect there has been a systematic review of argentinean fauna of Gordiida, south american and other regions.
