AN ONLINE TAXON LIST OF HETEROPTERA FROM ARGENTINA AND URUGUAY

An online database of Heteroptera with a complete inventory of the species from Argentina and Uruguay corresponding to 23 families is presented: Reduviidae, Tingidae, Pentatomidae, Acanthosomatidae, Scutelleridae, Tessaratomidae, Dinidoridae, Megarididae, Largidae, Pyrrhocoridae, Coreidae, Rhopalidae, Berytidae, Blissidae, Colobathristidae, Cymidae, Geocoridae, Lygaeidae, Ninidae, Oxycarenidae, Pachygronthidae, Piesmatidae, and Rhyparochromidae. The database was compiled by the authors through their own field work and from the available scientific literature. Names of high-level taxa, genera, species, and subspecies have been listed. Currently the database contains near 1,000 species, and it is in constant development, updates are programmed to be every three months. For each species, the following information is given: valid name and synonyms, geographic distribution in Argentina and Uruguay, and other countries, host plants, economic and sanitary importance, selected observations, the most relevant bibliographical references, and links to related databases such as Lygaeoidea Species File and Coreoidea Species File. The species are illustrated with photographs, which in several cases are the type specimens. In the near future we will include other families, such as Miridae and Anthocoridae.
