Resumen:
Villegas´s translation of the Divine Comedy (1515) was accompanied by a commentary whose main source was Landino´s "Comento sopra la Comedia" (1481). We will here analyze the particular way in which the Spaniard reappropiated Landino´s text, focusing on the fluctuating and sometimes contradictory development of one idea that pervades the landinian interpretation of the Commedia: the dichotomy active vs. contemplative life.
