Resumen:
The relationship between SST sateIlite data and the distribution pattern of Argentine hake during spawning season in the San Matías Gulf was analyzed. Data of hake abundanee and temperature in the water eolumn were obtained during a researeh survey with bottom trawl net. SST data obtained from MODIS sensor were validated with in silu observations and eorrelated with hake abundanee indexes. Hake abundanee showed positive eorrelation with SST and higher hake densities were observed in areas with high stratifieation in the water eolumn. The spatial pattern of hake distribution during the reproduetive season appears strongly related to a eyclonie gyre whieh would produce favorable eonditions for the spawning proeess and the development of hake early stages.in silu observations and eorrelated with hake abundanee indexes.
