Resumen:
The rapid and continuous development of radiotherapy in recent decades allowed, through highly complex techniques, a great efficacy and curative potential in cancer treatments. However, an accurate absorbed dose assessment is essential for the effectiveness of any radiotherapy treatment. Therefore, the development of new and modern radiotherapy techniques requires dosimetry methodologies capable of obtaining information on the spatial tridimensional dose distribution. In this context, polymer gel dosimetry is a non-conventional alternative, inherently tridimensional and capable of registering spatial dose distributions with a high resolution in a radiological tissue-equivalent material. The purpose of this work is showing the feasibility to use polymer gel dosimeters as 3D dosimeters in studies of treatment planning verification. To this aim, the capability of polymer gel dosimeters to be applied as a reliable method to verify dose distributions in two complex radiotherapy treatment modalities was studied. The obtained dose distributions were compared with those obtained by the treatment planning system, achieving agreements greater than 94 % by using a tridimensional evaluation of the gamma index method.
