Resumen:
In this work, we show the potentiality of performing X-Ray Resonant Raman Scattering measurements on the L shell as to obtain oxidation state information of the element of interest. This technique has been studied before using a variety of experimental conditions when in resonance with the K absorption edge [1-4]. We extrapolate the discrimination methodology established for the K shell analysis to the L one and compare the results obtained. The measurements studied were performed at the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Source (LNLS, Campinas) in the D09B-XRF beamline, using the typical 45°-45° geometry, and an energy dispersive system. The incident beam energies were selected just beneath the L absorption edges of different rare earths as to achieve the resonance condition. Spectra were analyzed by a multivariate analysis approach, mainly with Principal Component Analysis and Discriminant Analysis. The results show a clear discrimination of the different element compounds, but with different features than when studying the K resonance. The outcome is significant since this novel RIXS tool successfully allowed to observe different species of the studied elements by means of the inspection of the L lines.
