Resumen:
Plasma membrane H+-ATPases (PM H+-ATPases) are important integral proteins. By creating a membrane potential extruding protons from the cell, these pumps energize the plasmalemma, which is required for growth. In addition, the membrane potential generated by PM H+-ATPases provides the driving force for sugar transport, an essential process for development. This chapter is focused on the role of PM H+-ATPases in plant growth and development, addressing their participation in cell expansion, axillary bud outgrowth, pollen tube growth and potato tuberization.
