Resumen:
We present the history of taphonomy and some of its uses, emphasizing some notable conceptual changes that resulted from its applications in archeology. Particularly important are analytical developments clarifying the different approaches to taphonomy and their role in specifying effect-cause relationships. The inclusion of inorganic remains among the objects of analysis leads to substantial improvements in the understanding of human behavior. This expansion is the basis on which an unrestricted and regionally oriented taphonomy is based.
