Resumen:
The Sierra Chica fault is one of the three more important faults of the Sierras Pampeanas of Córdoba. This structure has a long heritage, mainly the influence of the Cretaceous extensional faulting and their later reversion during the Tertiary compression. The Cretaceous tectonic produced a pervasive extension, mainly localized along the present Sierra Chica fault. According to geobarometric data obtained from the exhumed blocks, the throw was between ~5 km (Alta Gracia latitude, 31º 36´ S) and ~12 km (La Calera latitude, 31º 21´ S). At the present time, to the latitude of Alta Gracia, the hangingwall and the footwall are connected by the reverse Sierra Chica fault that uplifts the eastern block on the western one but, in spite of that, a geobarometric difference of at least 5 km is still preserved between both blocks, which would be effect of the Cretaceous extensional deformation.
