Resumen:
At present, identification of a person alive or dead is aroutine process that may involve a wide range of technicalapproaches. Information provided by dactiloscopy, odontology, radiology and/or tomography might lead tounbiased identification, especially if previous informationis available, although DNA typing technology is the mostprecise and robust mean for identification purposes. Bycomparing genetic profiles of closely related persons it ispossible to establish biological kinship. Some cases inwhich politically relevant figures are concerned usuallyrequire an overwhelming effort to convince the publicopinion of the identity of that person. Even thoughobjective and confidential demonstration of anindividual's identity may require routinely about ten totwelve STR and four VNTR typing, in this case a muchhigher number of genetic markers were used in order toprovide comparable data for all second labs that may berequired to perform the test. The aim of this paper is topresent the results obtained during the DNA-basedidentification of the remains of a powerful and wealthyexecutive thought to be in close contact with theArgentine establishment.
