Resumen:
Abstract.  The gas phase acylation of phenol with acetic acid was studied over different solid acids, namely HY zeolite, SiO2-Al2O3, Al-MCM-41, and tungstophosporic acid (HPA) supported on MCM-41 or carbon.  Bulk and surface catalyst properties were characterized by using a variety of spectroscopic techniques.  Al-MCM-41 and HPA/C were the most promising catalysts, showing the highest selectivity and stability for the o-hydroxyacetophenone synthesis.
