In this contribution we illustrate how a geoarchaeological approach may contribute to explore spatial and temporal properties of the archaeological record at different scales. This goal is achieved by presenting three case studies from the Pampa and Patagonia regions, in which we analyze properties such as distribution and resolution of the archaeological record derived from the geologic/pedologic context. In the first case, a particular succession of fluvial environments represented in Pampean alluvial valleys leads to concentrate the archaeological evidence in two separate units, creating a “silencio arqueológico” between them. In the second case we show the contribution of the soil fauna (mainly worms) in the burying and alignment of archaeological evidence below the A soil horizon in Pampean divides, a process commonly underestimated. Finally, in the third case, the geologic structure and geomorphic dynamics contribute to understand differences in the distribution and characteristics of the coastal archaeological record in northern Patagonia
