Based on the critical reading of the recent historiography and, especially, on my own work on labor policies and the creation of labor courts during the first Peronism, the paper briefly analyzes the history of state interventionism in labor matters in Argentina since the beginning of the 20th century and the changes introduced by the first Peronism to this longer history, with the purpose of making a contribution to that endless debate but also of placing his administrations in the larger context of the formation of social or welfare states in the region and elsewhere.
