Resumen:
Conventional ceramic methods preparation of spinels often yield less than ideal grain sizes appropriate for different applications. A variety of other methods to retain small grain size have been applied to the preparation of ferrites with the spinel structure. Recently ball milling has been shown to be a suitable means for producing nanostructured spinel particles. Moreover, synthesis from oxide components and either the stabilization of the cubic phase or a given cation distribution has been obtain by this route. Cu/Mn/O system presents grate interest due to its many applications. Here we present the preparation details and results of controlled HEBM of mixtures of CuO and a-Mn2O3 in the ratio 1/3. Average volume-weighted crystallite size and the weighted average strain of the obtained samples were determined from room temperatureWAXS data. To access information on intergrain structures these results were correlated with data from SAXS experiments especially designed. The results are discussed and compared with data coming from samples prepared by ball milling in the same conditions the initial binary oxides.a-Mn2O3 in the ratio 1/3.
