Resumen:
● Children make use of argumentative strategies in confrontational interactions, engaging with a variety of interlocutors during everyday interactions.Argumentation, along with other forms of discourse, is crucial in classroom discourse as a means of knowledge transmission and construction ● We examine children's use of language when they position themselves in a dispute and participate in argumentative discourse units defined as alternative stances taken by the participants consisting of at least two components : the claim (the stance that is debated) and the data (justifying the claim), linked by a warrant (the reasoning that validates both parts).● Participants position themselves by using evaluative and evidential expressions, i.e. expressive, non-factual, language whereby they take a stance with respect to the information exchanged or with respect to the interlocutor.● SES has shown differences in certain aspects of children´s discourse development . Previous studies also have shown differences in some argumentative strategies . We hypothesize that SES may have an effect on children’s argumentative discourse, in particular in the organization of the argumentative sequence and the uses of evaluative and evidential language.
