Resumen:
Polymethacrylate/acrylamide copolymer was covalently grafted onto polyethylene foils, by radiation-induce polymerization, creating a brush-type surface on the top of it [1]. Reactive groups of the copolymer were derivatized with ethylenediamine (EDA) at different reaction conditions creating micron-size thickness hydrogel interfaces [Fig. 1] that promote cell adsorption (i.e. bacteria, yeast) [2]. Furthermore characterization of the achieved structures was performing using fluorescein and fluorescein-5-isothiocyanate (FITC) in order to determine the presence of primary and/or secondary amino groups [3, 4]. The detection of the fluorophore was done in situ by a fiber-optic based spectrofluorometer. The ratio between the ionically adsorbed molecules and covalent attached ones allow to estimate the hydrogel crosslinking and the network-type surface.
