Resumen:
Nineteen wading-bird species conforming one guild at El Bagual Ecological Reserve (northeastern Argentina) were studied to understand the structure and dynamics of the community during two consecutive years making observations on distribution and abundance, composition and dominance. Sampling was oriented also to gather behavioral aspects in the light of getting information on the structure of the community. In this way, each species is characterized in terms of microhabitat selection and behavioral time budgets, foraging habits and ecomorphology. Wading birds at El Bagual make up a community in a broad sense. The idea of competitive exclusion is herein confirmed where the species do not high competence in the use of resources available this meaning a differential survivorship for individuals better adapted to extant biotic and abiotic conditions. The community is dominated by five species Mycteria americana, Ardea cocoi, Aramus guarauna, Plegadis chihi and Phimosus infuscatus, these two later of winter presence. Other 15 species make up the community representing the 36% of the total sampled. The community appears to be homogeneneous and regular in both different years of sampling in based upon abundances distribution this community holds more species than niches. Most of waders are habitat-specialists and two ways of spatial displacement was herein demonstrated (open and close habitats, and nocturnal and diurnal habits).
