Resumen:
This paper deals with the BG2 wrecksite, which is located in the intertidal coastal zone of Puerto Madryn. An erosion process which affects the area is progressively exposing the remains. It was decided to conduct an archaeological research in order to identify the chronological and cultural context of the vessel and assess its historical and scientific relevance. The methodology consisted mainly of the analysis of its constructive features and the identification of wood species and metal components. The archaeological data obtained was then evaluated in relation with the historical record gathered. The results indicate that it consisted of a mid-size, wooden, sailing vessel that was built using relatively shoddy or unskilled workmanship. It was probably built in the 19th century, so it would be the oldest wrecksite found up to the present in the area. Wood removal evidence associated to historical data suggest that some ship components could have been reutilized by the first Welsh settlers who arrived at this place in 1865.  Preliminary results situate the BG2 wrecksite as a maritime heritage of significant value.
