This chapter reviews the different topics related to maritime archaeology and underwater cultural heritage which are addressed by a governmental institution in Argentina, the Instituto Nacional de Antropología.y Pensamiento Latinoamericano (INAPL). These topics include contributions to national and international legislation initiatives, scientific research, and dissemination activities. The current situation is analized in terms of the results achieved to date and the perspectives for the future, specially taking into account the severe economic constraints faced by the country and which require creative approaches for research and management policies related to the maritime heritage.
