This contribution presents a brief general overview of the HMS Swift project, aimed at the archaeological study and preservation of the remains of an 18th century British sloop of war, the HMS Swift, wrecked in Patagonia in 1770. It also comments on some threats to the site, both of natural and cultural origin, namely the action of marine wood borers and the increasing expansion of the local commercial harbour of Puerto Deseado.
