This chapter presents a summarized overview of the archaeological study of shipwrecks in different countries in South America. References are made to Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Colombia and Uruguay, revealing considerable disparity in the degree of production achieved to date in each of those places. It also indicates the great potential that the region still has not only for shipwreck studies but for underwater and maritime archaeology in general.
