In this communication, we analyzed the problem of the origin and phylogenetic relationships of the Xenartha. The present "state of the art" is just as described by Simpson almost fifteen years ago: we do not know what the xenarthran relationships are. And, we add, neither do we know what the precise relationships within them are.
