Resumen:
In the field of fine chemicals, bimetallic Pt-Sn supported catalysts are widely used for selectivehydrogenations due to their improved performance and increased stability in relation to themonometallic Pt catalysts. Another way to improve selectivity is the use of a support able tomodify the catalytic properties of the dispersed metal or bimetallic active phase, such as TiO2.In this work, the promoting effect of tin added by means of a surface controlled reaction, hasbeen studied for a PtSn/TiO2 catalyst in the selective hydrogenation of furfuraldehyde (FAL)to furfurylalcohol (FOL). Pt/SiO2 and PtSn/SiO2 catalysts have been used for comparisonpurposes.
