Resumen:
In this paper some criteria related to a set of variables involved in lithium ion batteries discharge are analyzed through optimization problems, using a phenomenological model that predicts the main aspects of these systems. Energy and specific energy are objectives to be maximize. Three main operating restrictions are studied: constant current, constant power and constant resistance. The design variables are electrodes thicknesses, volumetric fractions of the different electrodes constituent parts, including the polymer, electrolyte, conductive additive and active solid material and the cell mass per unit area. The optimal design compared to a test case taken from the literature can reduce the battery mass and volume by 54% and 62%, respectively. This cell configuration reaches 149 Wh/kg for 6-hour discharge time.
