Resumen:
—A 1-D phenomenological model of PolymerElectrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC) based on a system ofalgebraic equations is developed. The main phenomena occurringinside the cell are considered in modeling with a minimumnumber of adjustable parameters by rigorously defining therelationships between key variables. The model obtained presentsa balanced agreement between computational complexity andaccuracy regarding cell internal phenomena, which makes it aneffective optimization tool. Therefore, simultaneous optimizationframeworks of the main operational and design variables of fuelcell are proposed. The results obtained through the differentoptimization frameworks provide a systemic view for the watermanagement in a PEMFC maximizing the specific energydelivered.
