Resumen:
The aim of our study was to estimate the prevalence of primary HIV drug resistance in a population of children born to HIV-infected mothers in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Our results showed a high frequency of antiretroviral drug resistance mutations in recently diagnosed infants younger than 5 years of age. Therefore, drug resistance testing before HAART inititation in pediatric populations should be implemented as a standard of care, even in developing countries such as Argentina, for a rational and cost-effective use of drugs.
