Resumen:
Atrichonotus Buchanan, 1939 and Floresianus Hustache, 1939 (Brachyderinae: Naupactini) are native of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, and include six species. They probably form a monophyletic group defined by the following synapomorphic characters: length of body less than 7 mm; rostrum conical, without lateral keels; antennal article 2 equal or shorter than 1; ventral surface of the genital tube without hairs. The polarity of 26 character states (18 of the external morphology and 8 of the female genitalia) was determined by out-group comparison with the genus Graphognathus Buchanan, 1939, for the six species. The most parsimonious cladogram was obtained applying the Wagner tree technique. Based on this analysis we conclude that Atrichonotus is paraphyletic regarding Floresianus, consequently we recognize the single natural genus Atrichotus, by priority. All species of this genus were redescribed and illustrated and a key for their identification is provided. Their geographic distributions and probable modes of speciation were discussed.
