Resumen:
The finding of arborescent lycophytes in tbe Tupe Forrnation, Sierra de Maz,province of La Rioja is reported in the present papel´. Bank imprints and a large stem are described as Lycopodiopsis derbyi, ?Brasilodendron pedroanum, and two other unnamed forms. They are comparable to Permian specimens from Chubut Province (Argentina) and Brasil. Previous paleoclimatic inferences about the U pper Paleozoic of Argentina, based on the ahsence of arborescent lycophytes in the Paganzo Basin, are discussed. According to palynological investigations, the Tupe Formation is not older than Late Carboniferous.
