Resumen:
Petrographic studies carried out on indigenous and historic pottery from the archaeological site Ruinas de San Francisco, province of Mendoza, are here presented. The aim of this work is to demonstrate how petrography can be used to understand the technological variability and the changes experienced in the ceramic manufacture, from the latter prehispanic to the colonial periods in the Mendoza valley. The results are preliminary and mainly qualitative due to the limited number of samples analyzed, but they help us to differentiate techniques and to correlate the ceramic materials with diverse provenances.
